As part of the overall effort to improve urban management and provide basic urban services in cities and towns, the Government of Ghana (GoG) has rolled out the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP). The Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme seeks to “improve urban management and basic urban services in particular Municipalities of which Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly is part”. Consequently, the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly is using part of its share of the Capacity Support Grant component of the GSCSP for the preparation of a Local Economic Development Strategy.
The preparation of the LED Strategy involved 5 main steps namely: (i) Organizing the effort, (ii) local Economy Assessment, (iii) Strategy Making, (iv) Strategy Implementation, and (v) Strategy Review. Local Economic Assessment involved a number of studies to help review current socioeconomic initiatives of the Municipality to help put the agenda for LED in the right perspective. As part of the Local Economic Assessment, a one -day workshop was conducted to analyse the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) for SWMA.
