SEFWI WIAWSO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY EMBARKS ON NEW GOVERNANCE ERA IN GRAND INAUGURATION CEREMONY


The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly inaugurated its 8th Assembly in a momentous ceremony at the Catholic Pastoral Centre on Monday, 12th February, 2024. The event, attended by key dignitaries, marked a significant step in advancing the principles of local governance and decentralization, fostering a sense of participatory decision-making at the grassroots level.

Hon. Louis Owusu-Agyepong, the Municipal Chief Executive, set the tone for the ceremony with a warm welcome to distinguished guests. He underscored the pivotal role of Assembly Members, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and dedicated service to the community. Expressing gratitude to former Assembly Members, he outlined the Assembly's achievements and development projects, concluding with a heartfelt prayer for the protection and long service of members.

All forty-five members of the Assembly, comprising thirty-one elected members and fourteen government appointees, took their oaths administered by the Chief Justice representative, His Worship Eric Baah Boateng. The solemn ceremony marked the official induction of the Assembly, setting the stage for their crucial responsibilities in the Municipal Governance Structure.

Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, delivered the Presidential inaugural address on behalf of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana. Congratulating the newly elected and appointed members, he emphasized the constitutional importance of decentralization and local participation in governance.

The President highlighted the progress of decentralization reforms, urging Assembly Members to deepen Local Governance. He outlined government policies related to decentralization, urban and rural development, and emphasized the need for capacity building, collaboration with local structures, and resource mobilization for development.

The address concluded with a reminder of the responsibilities of Assembly Members and a strong emphasis on good governance and citizen participation in the development process.
