In a concerted effort to boost educational development and address key challenges within the Municipality’s Education Sector, Honourable Dominic Gyasi, Municipal Chief Executive, met with officials of the Municipal Education Service for a comprehensive stakeholder engagement session.
The meeting, held at the Municipal Education Service Conference Room, brought together the Regional Director of Education, Heads of Units within the Municipal Education Office, Circuit Supervisors, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on the current challenges facing the sector and to chart a path toward sustainable educational growth in the Municipality.
Hon. Gyasi, in his opening remarks, emphasized the Assembly's commitment to supporting quality education as a fundamental pillar of community development. “Education remains one of our top priorities. We believe that empowering our children with the right resources and learning environment will shape a brighter future for our Municipality,” he stated.
During the session, several concerns were raised by Education Officials, including inadequate classroom desks, teacher shortages in rural areas, lack of teaching and learning materials, and the need for continuous professional development for educators. Circuit supervisors also stressed the importance of enhanced monitoring and mentorship to improve teaching standards.
In response, Hon. Gyasi acknowledged the challenges and noted that they were not new to him, given his background as a former teacher before assuming his current role as Chief Executive. He assured the gathering of the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with the Ghana Education Service (GES), non-governmental organizations, and development partners to address the issues raised.
“This engagement is not a one-time event. It marks the beginning of continuous dialogue and collaborative action between the Assembly and the Education Directorate. We are in this together, and together, we will make progress,” Hon. Gyasi affirmed.
The Regional Director of Education commended the MCE for his leadership and openness to dialogue. “This meeting is a clear indication that education is on the Municipal agenda. We are optimistic that with this level of commitment, we can overcome our challenges and make a meaningful impact,” he stated.
