Hon. Dominic Gyasi has concluded a series of engagements with the leadership of key stakeholder groups, including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and market leaders, on measures to address roadside trading and unauthorized roadside loading within the Municipality.
The decision to implement new measures follows extensive consultations with the leadership of the affected groups. The new measures affect not only traders who operate along major roads but also motorists and transport operators who load passengers at unauthorized points along busy road corridors, practices that contribute to traffic congestion and pose safety risks to road users.
Following the leadership engagements, the Municipal Chief Executive took the initiative to engage directly with the affected traders and motorists to inform them of the agreed decisions and the way forward. This approach was adopted to promote transparency, prevent misinformation, and encourage cooperation ahead of implementation.
The intervention forms part of efforts to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and enhance the general outlook of the Municipality. Hon. Dominic Gyasi reiterated that the Assembly will adopt a humane and consultative approach, working with transport unions, market leaders, and community stakeholders to identify designated trading and loading points.
Community members welcomed the direct engagement and expressed hope that the measures would bring lasting improvements to safety and order along major road corridors.
