The Green Africa Youth Organizaiton (GAYO) launched the National Clean Air Campaign during Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration held at Asawinso Senior High School. The event was organized by the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly and brought together community leaders, officials, and residents to celebrate the nation while promoting environmental responsibility.
The celebration was attended by Hon. Afful Benteh (Member of Parliament), Hon. Dominic Gyasi (Municipal Chief Executive), traditional chiefs, security officers, assembly staff, and the people of Sefwi Asawinso.
As part of the campaign launch, youth volunteers joined the Independence Day march carrying placards with messages promoting environmental protection, waste segregation, and an end to open burning of waste. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of clean air and responsible waste management.
The launch of the National Clean Air Campaign is only the beginning. GAYO is calling on government institutions, civil society organizations, local authorities, schools, and community members to support and participate in the initiative.
Protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. By working together to reduce pollution, adopt sustainable practices, and educate communities, Ghana can move closer to achieving cleaner air and a healthier environment for all.
