SWMA PROMOTES TRANSPARENCY AND ENGAGEMENT WITH TOWN HALL MEETING ON ANNUAL BUDGET PERFORMANCE


In accordance with Section 88 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly successfully organized a town hall meeting on June 20, 2023, to address the Annual Budget performance for the year 2022 and provide an outlook for 2023. The meeting, held at the Municipal Assembly Hall, aimed to promote transparency and accountability in the governance process.


The programme was strategically divided into three distinct parts. The event began with a series of brief speeches delivered by esteemed dignitaries. These speeches set the tone for the proceedings and highlighted the significance of the town hall meeting as a platform for public engagement.


Following the initial remarks, representatives from Care International took the stage to present their programs and initiatives in the Municipality. Their presentation shed light on the organization's efforts to address various socio-economic challenges within the Municipality, thereby providing valuable insights into the wider development landscape.


The central focus of the meeting revolved around the presentation on the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly's Annual Budget performance for the year 2022, along with an outlook for 2023. Officials from the Assembly shared comprehensive details and statistics concerning the implementation and outcomes of the previous year's budget. They also outlined the proposed plans and objectives for the upcoming fiscal year.


The third part of the program was dedicated to fostering an interactive environment. Attendees, including members of the public, were given the opportunity to ask questions, contribute their perspectives, and express concerns. Appropriate officers of the Assembly,

including the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, responded to the queries and provided clarifications, ensuring an inclusive and participatory dialogue.


The town hall meeting witnessed a commendable turnout, this significant level of participation reflects the active interest and engagement of the local community in the affairs of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality. The Assembly was pleased with the turnout as it surpassed their expectations, indicating a strong desire among residents to be involved in the decision-making process and stay informed about the annual budget performance.


The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly's commitment to holding such town hall meetings in compliance with legal requirements demonstrates its dedication to fostering an open and accountable governance system.
