The Blue Water Guards, acting on intelligence, have seized several pieces of equipment abandoned by galamsey operators in Nsuonsua, a community in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.
Reports indicate that the guards received information about ongoing illegal small-scale mining activities in the area and promptly informed Hon. Dominic Gyasi, Municipal Chief Executive. Acting swiftly, Hon. Gyasi directed the team to move in and apprehend the operators, who reportedly fled the scene, leaving behind their mining equipment.
Following the operation, all equipment was confiscated and conveyed to the office of the Municipal Assembly for proper documentation and further action.
The operation forms part of the Assembly’s continued efforts to combat galamsey, protect water bodies, and safeguard the environment.
In a statement, Hon. Gyasi reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and urged residents to report illegal mining activities, stressing that proactive measures will continue to prevent environmental degradation.
