The Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, together with the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Kofi Benteh Afful, officially cut the sod for the commencement of the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market at Asawinsо.
The project is part of the broader vision of the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, to promote economic transformation through the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Policy. Under this initiative, modern market facilities are expected to be constructed across Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) throughout the country to support commerce, create jobs, and stimulate local economic growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Dominic Gyasi described the project as a landmark development for the Municipality and expressed appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for extending the initiative to Sefwi Wiawso. He noted that the market would serve as a catalyst for economic growth by providing traders with a modern and conducive environment to conduct business.
According to the MCE, the state-of-the-art market facility will include modern trading spaces as well as key support infrastructure such as a banking facility, a crèche for children of traders and nursing mothers, a police post, and a fire service post. These facilities are designed to provide security, safety, financial services, and child-care support, ensuring a convenient and efficient trading environment.
Hon. Kofi Benteh Afful, in his remarks, commended the Government for initiating the project and emphasized its potential to transform Asawinsо into a major commercial centre within the Municipality. He stated that the market would attract investment, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of traders and residents.
The MP further urged community members to support the successful execution of the project and safeguard the facility upon completion for the benefit of future generations.
Traditional authorities, traders, residents, and other stakeholders who attended the sod-cutting ceremony expressed their excitement about the project and lauded the Government's commitment to bringing development closer to the people.
