The Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, in collaboration with officials from the Minerals Commission, has officially introduced the newly recruited Blue Water Guards to communities within the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.
The Blue Water Guards, a special task force mandated to protect water bodies from illegal mining and other harmful activities, have been deployed to various communities in the Municipality where they will be stationed to begin their operations.
During the introduction, Hon. Gyasi highlighted the critical role the guards will play in safeguarding the environment, particularly the rivers and streams that serve as vital sources of water for residents. He stressed the government’s commitment to tackling illegal mining and urged the public to support the officers in the discharge of their duties.
Officials from the Minerals Commission further explained that the deployment forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen environmental protection across the Western North Region. They noted that the introduction in Sefwi Wiawso, the regional capital, marks the first phase of the exercise, which will be extended to other Municipal and District Assemblies in the region.
Community leaders and residents expressed appreciation for the initiative, pledging their cooperation to ensure the success of the Blue Water Guards’ mandate.
Hon. Gyasi assured that the Assembly, together with the Minerals Commission, will closely monitor the operations of the task force to ensure quality results and sustainable impact.
