HON. DOMINIC GYASI DISTRIBUTES FERTILIZERS TO FARMER GROUPS IN THE SEFWI WIAWSO MUNICIPALITY

As part of the government’s agenda in the agriculture sector under the Feed Ghana Programme, through the Municipal Chief Executive; Hon. Dominic Gyasi, the Municipality received one thousand five hundred (1,500) bags of fertilizers made up of NPK and Urea and were distributed to thirty (30) Farmer Based Organizations (FBOs) consisting of six hundred and twenty-five (625) small scale farmers, across the Sefwi Wiawso municipality.

The distribution took place at the premises of the Department of Agriculture on 6^th August, 2026. The fertilizers were distributed to small scale farmers to boost staple crop (rice, maize and vegetables) production in the municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dominic Gyasi addressed the farmers and emphasis that the government’s support to the small-scale farmers was to cushioned them to reduce the burden of fertilizer cost and keep the farmers in production. He advised the farmers to form strong cooperatives so that they can continue to benefit from the government interventions, since it is easy working with farmer groups and rapid transfer of information to other farmers. He admonished the farmers to ensure that they use the fertilizers for the intended purpose, so that the municipality can continue to be the food basket of the Westen North region and the country as whole, resulting in better standard of living for the farmers’ household.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Daniel K, A, Nyagorme expressed his gratitude to the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive for his relentless efforts for the development of agriculture in the municipality and to the farmers for their continuous effort to ensure that there is available foodstuff in the municipality. He assured the Hon, Municipal Chief Executive that the fertilizers that were distributed to the farmers, he and his staff will conduct monitoring and supervision visits to the beneficiary farmers’ farm to provide extension delivery services to them.  So that the fertilizers are applied using the 4Rs principles; the right source, right rate, right time and right place to maximize crop yield.

The farmers were extremely ecstatic that their groups were selected and benefited from the government interventions, especially the fertilizers. As Oliver Twist, the farmers requested for more inputs as the quantity of fertilizers distributed was not enough to reach the whole municipality based on the farmer population and the groups registered by the Department of Agriculture under the Feed Ghana Programme.
