The Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, has paid a working visit to the Wiawso Government Hospital to inspect the renewed construction works on the long-stalled maternity block.

The maternity block project, which was initiated during the administration of the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, has remained abandoned for several years due to funding gaps and contractor-related challenges. Its stalled state has long been a matter of concern for residents, health workers, and expectant mothers who rely on the facility for essential maternal care.

During the inspection, Hon. Gyasi expressed profound satisfaction that construction has finally resumed after years of inactivity. He emphasized that completing the maternity block is a top priority for the Assembly and forms part of ongoing efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure across the Municipality.

He noted that once completed, the facility will significantly ease congestion at the existing maternity unit, improve maternal care, and enhance the overall capacity of the hospital to serve the growing population.

The contractor is currently mobilized on site and initial works including structural assessments, material delivery, and site clearing have commenced in earnest. Hospital management expressed gratitude to the MCE and the Assembly for pursuing the revival of the project, which they described as timely and critically needed.

Hon. Dominic Gyasi assured the public that the Assembly will closely monitor progress to ensure that the project is completed within schedule and delivered to standard. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving healthcare services in the Municipality, stressing that no facility important to the wellbeing of residents would be left unattended.
