The Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, on Tuesday 26th August, 2025 led a delegation from the Minerals Commission to pay a courtesy call on the Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brentum, in Sefwi Wiawso.

The visit was aimed at introducing the newly recruited Blue Water Guards, a special task force mandated to safeguard water bodies in the region, to the Regional Minister. The delegation also informed the Minister of plans to formally introduce the officers to other Municipal and District Assemblies across the Region.

Since Sefwi Wiawso serves as the regional capital, Hon. Gyasi, on behalf of the Minerals Commission, sought the Minister’s approval to commence the introduction of the officers within the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality as the first phase of the exercise before extending it to other Assemblies within the region.

Hon. Brentum warmly welcomed the initiative and pledged his full support. He assured the delegation that his office remains committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the program, and further encouraged them to reach out to him whenever they encounter challenges in the discharge of their duties.

The Minister emphasized the importance of protecting water bodies and expressed optimism that the initiative would go a long way in strengthening the fight against illegal mining and environmental degradation in the Western North Region.
