The Assembly Members for the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly have confirmed the President’s nominee for the Assembly.
At a Special Meeting held on Thursday, 30th September, 2021, to confirm His Excellence the President’s nominee, Honorable Louis Owusu-Agyapong polled 40 out of a total vote cast of 42, representing 95%
The meeting which took place at the Municipal Assembly Hall, was graced by the Honorable Regional Minister, Richard Obeng, and other prominent citizens including Nana Frimpong MansoAbabio, Paboasehene and representative of Sefwi Wiawso Omanhene, Regional Chairman of the rulingNPP, Constituency Chairmen of both NPP and NDC,ReverendMinisters,Party Executives,Heads of Departments /Units, Party Faithfuls and people from all walks of life.
The meeting was called to order by the Municipal Coordinating Director and Secretary to the House, Mr. Joseph K. Baah – Darkoh, who welcomed Honourable Members and other dignitaries to the House. He informed the House that, the meeting was called in fulfillment of Part 1, Order 14 and 15 of the Standing Orders which enjoin them to confirm by voting, the nominee of His Excellency the President.
He added that the Hon. Presiding Member was indisposed and cannot preside over the meeting. Consequently, he invoked Part 1, Order 2 Section 6 of the Standing Orders and requested Hon. Members to elect one person from their number to preside over the meeting.
The Regional Minister, Hon. Richard Obeng, in his address to the House before the vote cast said, it has been the wish of Dr. KwekuAfriyie who is the Member of Parliament for the Wiawso Constituency to be part of this historic event but an equally important Cabinet meeting prevented him from attending the confirmation. He therefore, sent his warmest regards to the entire house and wished the President nominee a successful confirmation.
The Minister also said there was always a time in this country where all political parties were seen in their political colours campaigning for votes from the citizenry and once the political season had ended the parties should come together as one with a common goal to develop this Nation Ghana. He mentioned Hon. Alban Bagbin who is the current Speaker of Parliament and H.E. Nana Addo Dankwah Akofo-Addo President of the Republic of Ghana as one critical Example.
In addition to the above the Minister said that God has blessed us with a Region with Wiawso being a Regional Capital and that other parts of the Region were looking up to Sefwi Wiawso to show leadership by example. He further added that human beings are bound to make mistakes and in whichever way the President nominee has wronged any Assembly Member, they should forgive and rather concentrate on the development of the Municipality by confirming the President’s nominee.
Hon. Louis Owusu-Agyapong Municipal Chief Executive elect, in his victory speech could not hide his joy as he expressed delight over his election. He said that for the past six (6) months the political atmosphere in Sefwi Wiawso had been so tensed in the process and event leading to the nomination of an MCE for the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality. He again said God in his own wisdom made a choice through H.E. the President and by that same choice, Hon. Assembly Members of Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly had given it a massive endorsement.
He thanked H.E. the President for the confident reposed in him by nominating him. This, he believed was through his hard work in the past four (4) years.
To the Hon. Assembly Members, the MCE elect thanked them for their massive endorsement.
Finally, the MCE said that the competition was over and that each and every one should come together to accelerate the development of the Assembly.
