LUSPA CONDUCTS VALIDATION AND TECHNICAL BACKSTOPPING OF THE SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK AND STRUCTURE PLAN OF SWMA.

The Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), tasked by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, conducted a validation and technical backstopping of the spatial development framework and structure plan of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly on Monday, 29th July 2024.

Mrs. Nada Tandoh, the Team Leader, stated that this exercise has become imperative since the spatial plans have either been prepared and approved by the Municipal Assembly under the Ghana Cities Program or are in progress. She emphasized that Independent Verification Assessment (IVA) reports have shown that the quality of many spatial plans is below the standards stipulated by the Manuals for the Preparation of Spatial Plans.

The Municipal Physical Planning Officer, Mr. Samuel William Oduro Boampong, provided a comprehensive presentation on the current status of the Assembly’s spatial plans. He detailed the progress made so far in implementing these plans and outlined the strategies being employed. The team examined whether the proper procedures were followed for the spatial plans that have already been prepared and approved, and how these plans are guiding infrastructure placement and the broader planning of the Municipality.

After extensive deliberation, the technical sub-committee appealed to LUPSA to train its members so that they could effectively review spatial plans in subsequent years.
