In a bid to foster stronger ties and promote mutual understanding, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sefwi Wiawso has facilitated a high-level community engagement between John Bitar Company Limited, one of Ghana’s leading timber firms, and opinion leaders of Sefwi Dwenase, where the company operates.

The meeting, held at the Municipal Assembly Hall, brought together key stakeholders including Nananom (Chiefs and Elders), Community Members, and Management representatives of John Bitar Company. The engagement aimed to deepen the relationship between the company and the community.

During the interaction, the traditional authorities and the company’s representatives shared  challenges confronting both parties. The chiefs raised concerns over infrastructure deficits and uncompleted community projects, urging the company to extend support as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In response, the company acknowledged the concerns and expressed readiness to collaborate with the community to address pressing issues in an amicable and sustainable manner.

The MCE, who played a mediating role, commended both parties for their openness and called for continuous dialogue. He highlighted the importance of corporate-community cooperation, especially in resource-rich areas, noting that peaceful coexistence and collaboration are vital for local development and business sustainability.

The Chiefs and the youth representatives jointly used the platform created by the Assembly and specifically requested the company to support the completion of stalled community development projects including a public toilet and durbar grounds at Dwenase.

John Bitar Company Limited assured stakeholders of its intent to support the completion of community initiated projects and outlined plans to contribute meaningfully to local development initiatives.

The engagement was a significant step towards strengthening corporate-community relations and sets a positive precedent for inclusive dialogue and development in the Sefwi Dwenase area.
