The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly, through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has successfully completed the disbursement of grants to beneficiary households under the 96th cycle of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.
As part of its mandate to implement the LEAP initiative at the district level, the Department commenced payments on Monday, July 1, 2025, and concluded the process on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
During this cycle, grants were distributed to households in 29 communities within the municipality, while beneficiaries in 9 additional communities accessed their payments through designated banking institutions.
Significantly, this cycle saw an upward adjustment in the grant amounts to provide increased financial relief to beneficiary households. The revised amounts are as follows:
• One eligible member household: Increased from GHC 256.00 to GHC 320.00
• Two eligible member household: Increased from GHC 304.00 to GHC 380.00
• Three eligible member household: Increased from GHC 352.00 to GHC 440.00
• Four eligible member household: Increased from GHC 424.00 to GHC 530.00
This increment is part of the government's broader commitment to strengthening social protection for low-income families. By enhancing the LEAP grant, the Assembly aims to ensure more impactful support, enabling beneficiary households to meet their basic needs with dignity.
The LEAP programme continues to play a pivotal role in the municipality’s strategy to reduce poverty and improve the living standards of its most vulnerable citizens.
