The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, 12 August, 2025 held a community engagement with the Chiefs, elders, and residents of Sefwi Asawinso on the proposed construction of a 24-hour economy market in the community.

Leading the Assembly’s delegation was the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Fred B. Kpodo, who was accompanied by the Project Implementation Team, made up of the Municipal Planning Officer, Municipal Budget Analyst, Municipal Works Engineer, and the Municipal Internal Auditor. The engagement also brought together traditional authorities, Assembly members, unit committee members, the market queen, the GPRTU, and other stakeholders.

Mr. Kpodo assured the community that plans for the market project are far advanced, with the Assembly awaiting approval from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD) before construction commences. He further appealed to the traditional authority to support the relocation of Project Affected Persons (PAPs) to ensure smooth implementation.

On behalf of the traditional authority, Nana Kwame Gyabeng expressed gratitude to the Assembly, led by the MCE Hon. Dominic Gyasi, for selecting Asawinso as the site for the 24-hour economy market. He pledged the community’s cooperation and confirmed that land would be provided for the relocation of affected persons. He also urged the Assembly to remain committed to fulfilling its promise without delay.

Mr. Kpodo, in closing, thanked the community for the warm reception and reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to delivering the project. He also encouraged residents to honor their tax obligations to enable the Assembly to mobilize more revenue for development projects across the Municipality.
