SEFWI WIAWSO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS ITS FIRST ORDINARY MEETING FOR 2022


In accordance with the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936) Section 17 (4) and the Model Standing Orders, the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, 13thApril 2022, held its first General Assembly Meeting for the year.

The meeting which doubled as the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Seventh Assembly was set to elect a new Presiding Member. In attendance were the Hon. Assembly Members, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Louis Owusu - Agyepong, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Joseph K. Baah Darko, His WorshipMr. Lawrence Buer (Sefwi Wiawso Circuit Judge), Electoral Commission, Heads of Departments/ Units and Agencies, and staff of the Assembly.

A team from the Municipal Electoral Commission, led by Mr. Courage Kumador read through the laws governing the proceedings of electing a Presiding Member and made known to the meeting that Hon. Francis Fosu Mayne would be a proxy voter for Hon. James Anyebatinga.


Nominations were held for interested persons to pick up forms. At the close of nomination, three forms were received from Hon. Kenneth Ayamba, Hon. Kwaku Addai Johnson and Hon. Martha Awuah and were seconded by Hon. Assembly Members.


The representative from the Electoral Commission, Mr. Courage Kumador explained that a two-thirds majority was needed for a candidate to be declared Presiding Member elect.

At the end of the election, Hon. Martha Awuah had a total of thirty-two (32) votes, representing sixty-eight (68) %, Hon. Kwaku Addai Johnson had one (1) vote, representing 2.12%, and Hon. Kenneth Ayamba had a total of nine (9) votes, representing 19.14 %.


The Circuit Court Judge, His Worship Lawrence Bueh sworn Hon. Martha Awuah into office as the Presiding Member for the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly.


In a brief remark, the Hon. Martha Awuah thanked all members for the confidence reposed in her and called for the needed cooperation to be able to chair the meeting.


She called for more collaboration and commitment from Members in the discharge of their duties to accelerate development in their various electoral areas and by extension the Municipality. The meeting continued with the presentation, discussion, and approval of the MCEs Sessional Address and Executive Committee Report. The meeting ended at 4:22 pm.
