The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly held its monthly Spatial Planning Committee Meeting on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, at the Municipal Assembly Hall. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on critical spatial and land-use planning matters within the Municipality.
The meeting was chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Spatial Planning Committee. In his opening remarks, Hon. Gyasi welcomed members and stressed the importance of coordinated and sustainable spatial development, urging the committee to approach the discussions with a shared vision of orderly land use and long-term development.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to consider the recommendations submitted by the Technical Sub-Committee, which had earlier sat to discuss issues of concern in relation to spatial planning, human settlement and sustainable and research communities in the Municipality. Members discussed these recommendations thoroughly, ensuring that all planning decisions align with existing development regulations, zoning guidelines, and the overarching physical development plan of the Municipality.
A key highlight of the meeting was a detailed presentation by Mr. Mawusi from the Western North Regional Office of the Lands Commission. His presentation focused on state lands within the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, providing insights into their current usage, encroachments, and the implications of unauthorized developments.
Mr. Mawusi emphasized the need for closer collaboration between the Municipal Assembly and the Lands Commission to safeguard public lands and promote planned development. He also outlined the processes for regularization and proper documentation of land titles.
The committee also discussed the implications of regulatory notices and planning directives, particularly in relation to unauthorized developments, zoning violations, and compliance with land-use regulations. Members reviewed the need to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and ensure that all developers adhere to approved layouts and planning permits.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all committee members to support the Municipal Assembly in promoting effective spatial planning, land management, and sustainable urban growth. Hon. Dominic Gyasi commended members for their active participation and called for continued collaboration among planning stakeholders.
