The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly on Monday, July 1, 2025, joined the rest of the country in observing the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, a new national initiative declared by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana. This historic observance, which coincides with Republic Day, is aimed at uniting Ghanaians in prayer and thanksgiving for the nation's peace, progress, and prosperity.

The event in Sefwi Wiawso was held in two separate but spiritually significant sessions for both Muslims and Christians, reflecting the country's rich religious diversity and commitment to interfaith harmony.

The Muslim session was held at the Central Mosque in Sefwi Dwenase, where the atmosphere was solemn yet hopeful. Present at the ceremony were key dignitaries including the Western North Regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sefwi Wiawso, the Regional Chief Imam, the Regional Director, the Municipal Coordinating Director, and heads of the security services.

The Regional Chief Imam led the congregation in special prayers, calling on Allah to continue blessing Ghana with peace, stability, and development. He emphasized the need for National unity, forgiveness, and a collective commitment to the country’s well-being. The gathering also prayed for the leadership of the country and for all public servants.

Later in the day, the Christian session was held at the Central Church of Pentecost, also in Sefwi Dwenase. The service was attended by the Regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive, leaders of various charismatic and Pentecostal churches, the Regional Director, the Municipal Coordinating Director, and heads of security agencies.

The Area Head of the Church of Pentecost led the prayer service, lifting up the nation before God and asking for divine wisdom for its leaders. He also prayed for national peace, economic recovery, and spiritual renewal. The gathering was marked by vibrant worship, intercessory prayers, and a strong sense of patriotism.

Both sessions reflected a common purpose to acknowledge God’s grace upon Ghana and to seek His guidance for the years ahead. In their respective remarks delivered at both sessions, the Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive praised the President’s vision for instituting a day of national spiritual reflection. They encouraged citizens to continue living in unity, regardless of religious affiliation, and to support the government in its quest to build a better Ghana.
