The Municipal Planning Coordinating Unit of Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly held it maiden 2022 third quarter MPCU meeting on the 29th November,2022 at the Municipal Assembly Hall.
Mr. Joseph K. Baah- Darkoh, the Municipal Coordinating Director welcomed all members and urged them to actively participate in the meeting to ensure effective participation. The MCD used the opportunity to thank all members present for their immense support towards the committee. The MCD praised members for lifting the banner of Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly higher at the national level concerning the 2022 Performance Contract Assessment. He said Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly moved from 205th position in the previous year (2022) to 21st position in 2021 out of the 260 MMDAs in Ghana.
After the MCD’s opening remarks, Mr. Louis Aggrey, the Municipal Development Planning Officer led reading and correction of previous minutes. The following were the issues discussed at the meeting;
Ø Discussion of the Fourth Quarter Progress Report on the implementation of the on-going Development Programmes/Projects in the Municipality
Ø Discussion of Tourism Potentials and Development in the Municipality
Ø Discussion of indicators for the preparation of 2022 Annual Progress Report
Ø Discussion of reports from departments/Units/Agencies
The members discussed thoroughly on abandoned projects in the Municipality. Members recommended that management should engage the contractors involved to resolve the outstanding issues. The members urged the Municipal Works Engineer to do enough research about the abounded projects and table it before management to resolve any outstanding issues with contractors to ensure the completion of abandoned projects.
On the tourism potentials and development in the Municipality, the MPO said Sefwi Wiawso Municipality has many tourism potentials and the need to identify the various tourist sites to boost tourism activities in the Municipality. The members agreed that the BAC should champion the agenda to promote tourism in the Municipality.
The meeting was fruitful and participatory and gave committee members the opportunity to deliberate on development issues to promote holistic development in the Municipality.
