The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority- Western North Region formed and inaugurated the Municipal Road Safety Committee. The inauguration ceremony, held on March 13th, 2024, at the Municipal Assembly Hall marked a significant milestone in the Municipality's commitment to promote safer road practices.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Louis Owusu-Agyepong, extended a warm welcome to the team from the National Road Safety Authority and all Committee Members. He highlighted the significance of the Road Safety Committee, emphasizing that its establishment was mandated by law (Act 2019) (Act 996). Its primary role is to oversee, regulate, monitor, and ensure the implementation of robust road safety measures within the Municipality.
Hon. Owusu-Agyepong urged committee members to collaborate effectively, leveraging their expertise and experiences to prevent accidents and promote road safety. He stressed on the importance of teamwork in achieving the Committee's objectives and ensuring the safety of all road users in the Municipality.
Mr. Richmond Addo Gyan, the Principal Transport Assistant with the Western North National Road Safey Authority, led the presentation on the current statistic of accidents in Western North and the functions and expectations from the Committee.
The newly formed committee comprises representatives from various stakeholders, including government agencies, law enforcement, community leaders, transport operators and the media. Together, they will collaborate to develop and implement effective road safety strategies tailored to the unique needs of the Municipality.
The formation of the Municipal Road Safety Committee reflects Assembly's proactive approach to address road safety challenges and safeguard the well-being of residents and commuters. As the Committee begins its work, stakeholders remain optimistic about the positive impact it will have in fostering a safer road environment within the Municipality.
