The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly (SWMA) has observed the December Edition of the National Sanitation Day, which was rescheduled to the third week of the month instead of the traditional first Saturday of every month due to the celebration of Farmers’ Day.
The sanitation exercise brought together Assembly staff, sanitation officers, community volunteers, and residents, who undertook a massive clean-up of major streets, markets, public places, and drainage systems within the municipality. The activity formed part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and safeguard public health.
Speaking during the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dominic Gyasi highlighted the importance of community participation in sanitation activities and encouraged residents to maintain good sanitation practices daily, rather than limiting cleanliness efforts to designated sanitation days.
The National Sanitation Day, which is observed nationwide on the first Saturday of every month, continues to serve as a key platform for mobilising citizens to support government initiatives aimed at improving sanitation and environmental sustainability.
