The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly on 3rd December, 2025 marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with an event held for persons living with disabilities, which also featured the presentation of livelihood empowerment items to beneficiaries.
This year’s theme, “Effects of Gender-Based Violence on Persons with Disabilities,” ignited an important discussion on the unique vulnerabilities that many persons with disabilities continue to face. The Municipal Chief Executive reaffirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities and strengthening local support systems.
Yaa Dufa, the Western North Regional Gender Director, delivered an insightful presentation highlighting the realities of gender-based violence within the disability community. She stressed the need for stronger protection systems, enhanced reporting mechanisms, and effective referral pathways.
The event was chaired by Hon. Assemiah, Chairman of the Social Services Sub-Committee of the Municipal Assembly, whose leadership helped steer the discussions toward practical solutions that local institutions can adopt.
To climax the programme, items requested by persons with disabilities were presented. Hon. Dominic Gyasi handed over a range of industrial and economic equipment to beneficiaries to support their livelihoods.
It was a meaningful gathering that reinforced the need for continuous advocacy, improved services, and stronger partnerships to ensure that no one is left behind.
