SWMA SUPPORTS TWINS BORN TO A MENTALLY HANDICAPPED LADY

Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal Assembly through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has supported a set of twins born to a mentally handicapped lady in its jurisdiction. This was in a form of a cash amount given to the caregiver of the twins and their mother at Sefwi Asawinso. This grant was paid through the Municipal Persons With Disability Fund.

The Head of Social Welfare and Community Development Department mentioned the office had paid keen interest on the children particularly because they were born preterm and were exposed to the dangers of infection. They were sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Asafo where they were incubated for about three weeks. While they were there, the office began an investigation on the background of the mother and identified a relative of hers who accepted to care for the mother and the children. "The children were handed over to her and since the mother was mentally unhealthy, she qualified to be assisted or supported through the Disability Fund"

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Louis Owusu-Agyepong handed over the cheque to the caregiver, thanking her for accepting to care for the children.
